![]() ![]() Both GNOME and KDE projects, along with major distributions, embraced it as a default way too fast while being fully aware that it was VERY unstable, borderline unusable, back then. It was boasted as the replacement of aRts and ESD. More specifically, the tendency of major desktop projects doing sharp turns that massively regress the desktop experience for years without regard for their own users, just to get back to the same place that they used to be, while there’s fundamental problems with core parts of what would constitute a desktop OS that just drags on.īut about specifically the PulseAudio: do you know when it was released? 2006. I was talking more about the general Linux desktop state as a whole, the audio server was just a example. Don’t even get me started on Wayland or these attempts to make “unified” software management with flatpak and snap… The fact that we are in the year 2022 still attempting to breed a decent sound server (basic functionality on a desktop OS since at least the year 1995) with another replacement in line (Pipewire) says a lot about the current state of affairs as far as Linux desktop experience is concerned. ![]() And that is all over the place with GNOME as well. The KDE project is a excellent example of that, archiving only 4 years ago roughly the same level of user experience that we could enjoy with KDE3 (abandoned in 2008). Worse, I saw a strange tendency of some major Linux desktop projects to make choices that actually makes their desktop experience to regress “in the name of a better architecture”, and engage in insane refactoring, spending 5… 10… 15 years as a utter mess, meanwhile sending their users thru a calvary, just to regain the same stability and feature parity that their former self once had. Haiku, as a desktop-only OS with no other ambitions, has the potential to offer a way more integrated and coherent desktop experience than Linux is capable of as it is today.Īs someone who uses desktop Linux for the past 20 years, and had used BeOS, the sad fact is: Linux is still far away from being a good desktop OS, and barely match today a 21 years old dead OS like BeOS in user experience. ![]() ![]() (How could he have never seen it? Operate between Chromatic or Guitar/Bass tuning modes, and enjoy visual pinpoint tuning verification with the Accu-Pitch Sign function. Both tuners will do the job well, and there isn't that much between them. The Pitchblack looks very much sleeker, and has a lower profile. So it depends on how power-hungry your other pedals are, but this was the clinching argument for me when I got the TU-3.Īgreed, the TU-3 is clunky and not especially pretty (like most Boss pedals), but it's near-indestructible, very easy to operate because of the large footswitch platform, and the colour makes it very easy to find on a darkened stage. The Pitchblack delivers up to 200 mA of power, the TU-3 can deliver up to either 200 or 500 mA, depending on what PSU you use. Boss TU-3 Chromatic Tuner Bundle with Instrument Cable, Patch Cable, Picks, and Austin Bazaar Polishing Cloth Austin Bazaar is an authorized Boss dealer. I would have preferred something simpler, like the display of the Pitchblack or the Polytune.īoth tuners are more than accurate enough. The display on the TU-3 is very bright, but way too busy. The Pitchblack has an aluminium housing which should withstand a lot of abuse, the only potential problem I can see is that the display comes very close to and partly surrounds the footswitch, so it might get stepped on more often, which might conceivably lead to failure over time. ![]() I don't think you could break it unless you took a hammer to it. I own a TU-3, and have no experience with the Pichblack, but here is my two cents': In true Waza tradition, the pedal’s benchmark functionality is further enhanced with BOSS skill and craftsmanship. ![]() At its core, the TU-3W provides rock-solid tuning equivalent to the industry-standard TU-3. While I assume both do that, I only know it for certain about the TU-3Īlso the Pitchblack Advance has some new color editions out, with different colored displays, and it is very pretty, while TU-3 invokes a cheap toy ambulance (the WAZA version is beautiful though, but I aint paying twice the amount of a TU-3 for that) I know this is superficial but still I was told they are pretty much the same in these terms.īoth have pedal outputs, but I need to know which one does the job better. I heard that TU-3 is a tank basically, some said that PBA has some issues here so I am leaning towards TU-3 here Now I am deciding on the following criteria: The TU-3 Chromatic Tuner sports a variety of tuning modes including flattened tunings and drop tunings that support extended range guitars and basses. As the title says - I am deciding between the TU-3 and Pitchblack Advance. ![]() ![]() ![]() When specifying a slice you can omit start and end points. Note that strings can be sliced as well as lists and tuples. The above lines of code take a slice from the 4th element in the sequence up to but not including the 7th element. The output of each statement will be included in a comment after it starting with ‘>’. Throughout this post we will be using the variables defined in the below example but to avoid clutter they will only be included in this first example. Thinking this way will make understanding slicing a lot easier. The diagram above shows how to picture sequence indexes and the values they reference. The slice will be between these walls, which of course will not include the value behind the end wall because we only go up to the wall and don’t pass it. Then the start and end points reference these walls, not the values behind them. For the more visual folks another way is to to picture a wall before each value in the sequence. In other words the slice will be from the start point up to but not including the end point. One way to remember this is that the start point is inclusive and the end point is exclusive. For example if you choose the starting point to be 0 and the end point to be 5, the slice will include indexes 0, 1, 2, 3 and 4. However it doesn’t work the way you might first assume it to. Slicing has incredibly simple syntax after a sequence type variable inside square brackets you define a start point, an end point and a step, separated by colons like so var. Slicing has more uses than I can think of or list here, but some of many useful applications include string manipulation and various mathematical uses when using NumPy you will encounter slicing a lot. It gives you to ability to manipulate sequences with simple and concise syntax. Also, with a slice if you do not specify the start or stop index than Python will go all the way to the beginning or end of the string, respectively.Slicing is an incredibly useful and powerful feature of python. If you are getting one too many or too few characters with a slice it is probably because of a misunderstanding in how it is used. This is important to pay attention to the inclusive start index and the exclusive end index. In Python the first number of the slice is the start and the last number is where python stops slicing exclusively. A slice operator is a type of notation that tells the language what index to start at and what index to stop at. To do this we will use what Python calls a slice operator. That is it, regardless if you are trying grab the first character of the string or any of the last characters of a string it is important to verify the index will exist so that an exception is not thrown Last n characters of a stringĪnother one of the different ways available is to grab a set of characters. print( "The last character of testString is: %s " % lastChar) > testString = "" > if len(testString) > 0: In the case of the index at -1 Python will select the last index of the string. One other cool feature of Python is that we can also index in reverse! Just use a negative number starting at -1 to select a character in the string. Why is the last index in the string 22 and not 23? That is because Python starts counting the first index at 0 making the second character at index 1. Given the 23 characters, the letter “h” is located at index position 22. ![]() So in the example of “stand firm in the faith” there are 23 total characters. In Python, you can use the square brackets with a number or a slice notation to tell Python what piece of the string you want to grab. ![]() To understand all the following examples we must first understand how indexing in Python works.
